The onset of action:
Within one minute, maximum motor blockade and maximum
dermatome levels are achieved within 15 minutes in most cases. Duration of
sensory blockage (time to return of complete sensation in the operative site of
regression of two dermatosomes)following a 12mg dose average 2hour with or
without 0.2mg epinephrine.
Dose
Adult: 7.5 mg or 1.0ml for lower extremity and perineal
procedure including TURP and vaginal hysterectomy,12mg or 1.6ml for lower
abdominal hysterectomy, tubal ligation and appendecectomy 6mg for vaginal
delivery under spinal anaeshtesia. The dose range of 7.5 mg to 10.5 mg 1ml to
1.4ml for caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia.
Below 18 years, cannot recommend
Side effects:
- Hypotension
- Nausea
- Vomiting is frequently associated with a hypotensive episode
- A high dose, may lead to high plasma levels and related depression of the myocardium
- Decrease cardiac output
- Bradycardia
- Heart block
- Ventricular arrhythmias
- Possibly cardiac arrest
- Excitement / depression
- Restlessness
- Anxiety
- Dizziness
- Tinnitus
- Blurred vision or tremors may occur
- Possibly proceeding to convulsion
- Drowsiness
- Margin into unconsciousness and respiratory arrest
